Buxton 0 Macclesfield Town 2 - match report

The Bucks fell victim to the Conference Premier side thanks to two goals at the start of the second half.

Buxton started with new signing Andy Warrington between the sticks, after unveiling the former Rotherham stopper earlier in the day.

In the first half Warrington had little to worry about with Buxton peppering the Town goal.

Lee Morris created the first genuine chance of the match when his shot was charged down by former Chelsea stopper Rhys Taylor.

Morris was again in the thick of it soon after when he was through on goal before Taylor denied him for a second occasion.

The Bucks then stepped up their attack but failed to find a way past Taylor, with Derek Niven dragging wide a shot before Matt Thornhill flashed an inswinging effort just over the bar.

In the final proceedings before half-time, Craig King was denied by a block before Thornhill saw his shot repelled by Taylor.

After a flurry of substitutes from the visitors, it was John Askey’s side who took a stranglehold on the match.

Connor Jennings picked out Chris Holroyd in the area and he slipped past Warrington to give the Silkmen a surprise lead.

Moments later it was Jennings who made it 2-0, after a long punt downfield the Scunthorpe loanee expertly slotted home.

Those goals seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Bucks and the rest of the contest became a damp squib as a result.

King managed to show a sample of his skills late on by waltzing past defenders and into the box but his effort from an acute angle rose over the bar.

In the dyeing embers of the game Macclesfield threatened to score a third, but Danny Andrews saw his shot rebound off a post.
