The Bucks took the points to get their campaign off to a flyer, with Lee Morris grabbing a brace and Leon Osborne coming off the bench to score his first goal for the club.

Martin McIntosh fielded five debutants with a surprise inclusion for Jack Broadhead, who only signed on loan from Chesterfield on the morning of the match.

Buxton started the better of the two sides and made a statement of their attacking intent just two minutes in when Morris headed over inside the area after a precise cross from the left by Craig King.

The home side then ramped up the pressure and must have felt as though the footballing gods were against them when they were denied three goalscoring opportunities within a matter of seconds.

Scott Maxfield first hit the post before the rebound fell to Morris who somehow, with the goal at his mercy managed to ricochet the ball onto the bar before Maxfield was again denied this time by the onrushing Witton goalkeeper.

Despite that setback Buxton continued to create chances, with King being denied before Witton made an attacking intent of their own.

A inswinging free-kick was helped on by the swirling wind and had Andy Warrington back-pedalling to tip it behind for a corner.

With half-time approaching the breakthrough was made by Morris. Grant Black delivered a free-kick from the right and Morris rose unmarked to bullet a header into the top corner.

The second half began in a completely different fashion, with Witton obviously motivated by a half-time message from their manager.

The visitors started brightly and saw Matt Purcell’s shot scuffed when inside the area.

Danny Andrews then went close for Witton as they peppered Warrington’s goal in pursuit of an equaliser.

After sustained pressure, McIntosh’s men eventually buckled when Kyle Wilson tapped home after a ball was flashed across the area.

Despite that setback, Buxton recovered the retake the lead just five minutes later.

Morris latched on to a King pass and with his back to goal he held off his marker to turn and direct a shot into the bottom-left corner.

Buxton then saw close efforts from Derek Niven and Leon Osborne before the latter finished off a fine breakaway move to tap home and ensure a comfortable opening day win for the Bucks.
