Buxton Pumas U16s 5
Matlock Town Tigers U16s 2
Matlock travelled to newly-crowned league champions Buxton with a squad depleted by injuries, but Ewan Fisher and Mark Little put Buxton on the back foot when an early interchange between them saw Little put Matlock in front.
A midfield of Bruce Kitchen, Harris Lovatt, Jamie Webster and Will Swift were always competitive, especially in the first half when Matlock held the lead until five minutes before the break.
A misplaced header by a Matlock defender unfortunately lobbed Nathen Briddock in goal.
This was tough on Briddock, who had earlier pulled off one of his best saves of the season. Buxton added a second soon after from a corner.
After half-time, the defence of Jay Whitworth, James McDonald, Adam Smith and Sam Rowan were kept busy by a Buxton team who were starting show why they were the champions.
A period of pressure led to another home goal, this again was soon added to by a free header. Fisher and Kitchen’s tireless work meant that the game did not run away from Matlock and a late consolation penalty by Sam Rowan cancelled out Buxtons last goal.
The team would like to thank Longcliffe Quarries for their continued sponsorship.
