Clark at the double as ‘Gate earn three points

After nine weeks without a victory, Ambergate FC finally secured three points after overcoming a dogged Punjab United Reserves side with a confidence-boosting performance.

Ambergate went into the game with a new 4-3-3 formation which looked productive from the start. Chances were being created time and again but not being taken as Tom Aston, Richard Clark, Shaun Bestwick and Sam Hicking all went close.

The breakthrough eventually came when Richard Clark was sent through but taken down in a collision with the Punjab ‘keeper just inside the area. The referee gave the penalty and this was dispatched by Bestwick.

The second goal saw Craig Tipton scored direct from a free kick off the underside of the crossbar, Ambergate’s 100th goal of the season.

After 50 minutes, Punjab scored to get themselves back into the game.

The goal kicked Ambergate back into action and their third came shortly after as a Sam Barsby long throw, which was constantly causing problems, was met in the six yard box by Clark who headed home.

A fourth came ten minutes later from Clark and sub Jamie Milton scored the fifth goal and his first for the club.

Ambergate are at Willington Sports on Saturday (3pm kick off).
