Shirt Deal: Andrew Hodkin of JP Investment Partners shakes hands with Matlock Town chairman Tom Wright as they celebrate a new shirt sponsorship for The Gladiators.

MATLOCK Town have announced JP Investment Partners as their official shirt sponsor for the 2012/2013 campaign.

Matlock Town’s new shirts will carry the name of the East Midlands-based company after an agreement was confirmed with the leading alternative asset broker.

The deal was brought about by Matlock-based JP Investment Partner, Andrew Hodkin, whose relationship with the club spans many years.

He alerted JP managing director, Mike Wright, nephew of the Gladiators’ goalscoring legend Gordon Duggins, that the club was looking for a shirt sponsor and JP jumped at the chance.

Mike Wright said: “I am delighted and excited at the prospect of JP Investment Partners sponsoring the club where my uncle enjoyed such a happy and successful part of his goalscoring career.”

He went on to say: “I am equally pleased that Andrew Hodkin, our Matlock-based partner is going to be involved with the club he’s supported for such a long time.

“I’m sure many supporters already know Andrew and hopefully those that don’t will get to meet him at the events we plan to hold at the club.”

Tom Wright, Matlock Town chairman said: “We’re looking forward to a close relationship with JP Investment Partners over the coming season and delighted at the enthusiasm they have shown for supporting Matlock Town and the local footballing community.”

Meanwhile, Matlock’s players are hard at work in training, preparing for the first pre-season match against Teversal on July 17, and assistant manager Nick Buxton is pleased with what he’s seen so far.

He explained: “It was our third session on Tuesday night and we’ll be training three times a week leading up to the Teversal game.

“I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen at training.

“Fitness in the players is so important to Mark and me and at this stage it’s probably 70 per cent fitness work and 30 per cent ball work.

“The new lads have been slotting in well and James Ashmore in particular has got unbelievable fitness levels and there’s only really a couple of players who can keep up with him so far, and they’re struggling a bit, so I’ve been really impressed with him.

“Bradley Grayson has had a slight groin injury and Liam Wilkin has been injured too and is coming back from that. It’s a funny time now as it overlaps with holidays but we’re working them hard and I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far.

“We’re looking at a couple of trialists at the moment but nothing definite, though we’re still on the lookout certainly.”
