Darley Dale Dynamoes u8s 1
Leabrooks u8s 0
The watching mums of the Dynamoes got an early mothers’ day treat as their sons produced one of their best all-round performances of the season to see off the challenge of well-organised Leabrooks.
Darley started the game with a number of players having a run-out in different positions, and they started brightly with a good move between Joe Novelli, Jake Tabbenor and Tommy Harrison resulting in an early chance.
Leabrooks came back strongly and it took quick thinking and a brave save by Josh Harrison to deny them.
Darley took the lead soon afterwards when a fine through-ball from Josh Snape found Sam Gould. He surged into the box and squeezed the ball past the Leabrooks keeper.
Leabrooks dominated the rest of the half, with a sequence of fantastic corners, but Billy Talbot, Snape and Harrison made some great blocks to keep them at bay.
Darley came flying out of the blocks in the second half and Dylan Bayes found himself in the box after a twisting run down the right but his shot went just wide.
A couple of fine moves, firstly between Tommy Gill and Novelli, and then Bayes and Ben Crooks, nearly forced openings for the second goal, but Leabrooks’ defence made two great last-ditch challenges.
With Darley having dominated the second half but without extending their lead, they endured a nervy final few minutes but Snape, Harrison and man-of-the-match Gould guided them home with some great defending.
