Rochdale are currently 15th in League One with three wins and a draw from their first eight matches.
The clash at Spotland will be the sixth time the two clubs have faced each other in a cup competition in the last nine years.
Rochdale have had the better of the five previous meetings with three wins (3-2 in League Cup 2011, 2-1 in JPT 2015 and 3-1 in League Cup 2016). Chesterfield’s two wins were both in the JPT (3-0 in 2013 and 2-0 in 2016).
