by Drew Robertson

Five points separate the top six Matlock & District Football League teams as the leading two got sucked back into the pack due to defeats.

Victories for Riddings Rovers, AFC Lea Holloway and Wirksworth Albion that tightened up a pulsating championship.

Riddings inflicted a 3-2 away victory over Hilcote United.

Goals from Dave Robinson, Andy Lowe and James Simpson were the highlight of an oustanding team performance from the visitors.

Daniel Ryan and Daniel Fisher were on target for Hilcote.

Holloway were 5-0 up shortly after the break against Black Hippo with a hat-trick from Adam Suett and goals from Andrew Spence and Shaun Bott. Hippo rallied with two goals from Joe Taylor to make the Lea Green score more respectable at 5-2.

Wirksworth turned over high-fliers Woodthorpe Rovers 3-1 on the road with strikes from Craig Wheeldon, Gary Webster and Alex Howard to earn a well-deserved three points.

Matt Walsh netted for the home side.

Frozen pitches meant there were only three games with rest falling victim to the weather.
