As well as the performances pleasing Matlock Town boss Dave Hoole, there was further good news for the Gladiators off the pitch.
Jake Green has sign on again while former Chesterfield winger Adam Smith became his eighth new recruit of the summer.
“Jake had a few things to sort out at home and we’re delighted he’s back with us,” said Hoole. “He’s got a slight thigh strain at present, nothing serious, so he’ll be back playing soon.
“Adam Smith’s a great signing, he’s loving what we’re doing here. He’s about a week away from being fit after an operation. As for the others, we’ll be talking with them shortly.”
Hoole was delighted with the 1,333 crowd on Monday for the pre-season friendly win over Chesterfield.
Gladiators face Evo-Stik NPL First Division East opponents in their final two friendlies. They visit AFC Mansfield on Saturday and Belper Town a week later.
“We’ve proved we can mix it with pro clubs, now it’s a mentality thing. It doesn’t matter who you play against, you have to perform. The bar’s set and there’s competition for places throughout the squad,” he added.
