Gladiators earned their first ever victory at the weekend and lifted themselves off bottom position in the Alfreton Sunday League Division Three.
The visitors controlled the game from the kick-off and, playing against the rain, wind and a slope that makes the front of Riber look flat, were unlucky not to be ahead at half-time.
The second half came and some brilliant free flowing passing caused havoc for the Alliance defence, who were unable to clear their lines.
The Gladiators kept creating chance after chance and felt it was only a matter of time before the breakthrough came.
The goal came in the 52nd minute from a cross and Stu Pearson rose and flicked it past the keeper.
The Gladiators continued to attack and were unlucky not to make it two through Leam Mansfield.
On the hour mark, Alliance came into the game but composed defending, led by Chris Gratton, ensured this was a small five-minute blip.
The Gladiators’ second came in the 80th minute from a Simon Bridges cross which was met four yards out by Joe Smith, who headed home to cement the victory.
