Young Darley Dale footballers have received a financial boost from the county council to help with their sporting activities.
The budding young footballers from Darley Dale and the surrounding parishes were awarded a £600 cheque from Derbyshire County Council to help towards the improvement of both the training and changing facilities, and also towards the purchase of a new kit.
This will provide much needed funding to enable Darley Dale Juniors to continue the good work done with existing teams and also help towards the costs of the new under sevens team, which will form for next season.
Mike Longden, county councillor for Darley Dale, presented the cheque to chairman of Darley Dale Juniors Rob Wilson and also to the under sevens and under eights children during one of the teams’ weekly training sessions.
Funding was secured through the council’s Members’ Community Leadership Scheme and Cllr Longden jumped at the chance to support a local organisation that encourages healthy sport and the children’s development within the area.
Darley Dale Juniors currently have 12 teams with ages ranging from under sevens up to under 16s. They will be joined next season by three more teams, including an under 13s girls and an under 23s senior team.
