The 27-year-old partnered England’s Jamie Vardy up front when they played together for Halifax Town and last season netted 27 goals for the Lions and Championship clubs are now looking on with interest.

The Owls continue to be linked with Fulham’s former Leeds striker Ross McCormack but a £10m price tag for the 29-year-old Scotland international, who scored 23 times for his current club last season, may deter them.

Leeds United’s new head coach Garry Monk is set to sign Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson.

The striker scored 13 goals in 18 appearances for top-flight Scandinavian club Kalmar and is said to have been the target of a £1.25m bid from the Whites.

Swedish website Fotbollskanalen claim Leeds’ pursuit of the player is almost complete and Kalmar president Mattias Rosenlund confirmed the club are in discussions with an unnamed team over a deal for Antonsson.

“We are in agreement with a club,” said Rosenlund. “He will undergo a medical on Monday to check that nothing interferes with the process.

Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips is set to sign a new three-year deal. The 20-year-old academy product made 10 appearances in the Championship last season.

Huddersfield Town could be set to sign a third defender from head coach David Wagner’s native Germany .

The 1860 Munich defender Christopher Schindler is the reported target should QPR return with a revised bid for Joel Lynch that meets Town’s valuation.

Schindler came through 1860 Munich’s youth system and playedfor the club’s second team before making a senior bow in 2010. The centre-back back has since made more than 150 appearances and played four times for germany Under-21s.

Sunderland’s longest-serving first-team player has been the subject of speculation over a £5m move back to the Riverside, despite the midfield player having another five years to run on his contract.

The 28-year-old is a boyhood Boro fan and came through the ranks before joining Wigan in 2008 but manager Sam Allardyce is determined to retain his services.

Hull City remain linked with bringing Robbie Brady back to the club but they may look elsewhere because of Norwich’s asking price.

The Republic of Ireland international was sold by Hull to Norwich for £7m but the relegated Canaries now want £12m for the ex-Manchester United man.
