Gladiators are unlucky

Alfreton Out of Town Sunday League D3

Severn Stars 5

Gladiators 1

This was a real ding-dong battle with both teams playing some excellent passing football.

The Gladiators came out the blocks well and piled on the pressure, with waves of attacks on the Severn Stars’ goal.

Midway through the first half, the Severn Stars defence could simply not hold out and Stu Pearson, with some tricky footwork, danced around the full back and crossed for Leam Mansfield to leap and head home.

Severn Stars hit back with two wonder goals, both from 18 yards out. The Gladiators came in at half-time scratching their heads as to why they did not come in two or three goals to the good.

In the second half, Severn Stars came out like a runaway train and keeper Kev “the Cat” Marchant saved two one-on- ones. The crowd even started to question if there was glue on the gloves. The resistance was finally broken and Severn Stars scored. Still well in the game, Josh Hazeldine hit the inside of the post as the Gladiators went more attack-minded. This left space at the back for Severn Stars to score twice more to make it five.

Next week, the Gladiators play Gallows in the cup, at Hurst Farm with a 2pm kick off.
