Gladiators battle in vain

Alfreton Sunday League Cup Round One

Gladiators 1

Gallows 6

The Gladiators’ cup draw wasn’t kind as it saw them playing an extremely well-organised Gallows team.

However, Nick Hall in goal turned in a heroic performance to ensure the Gladiators went in only 1-0 down at half-time and the team was helped by the welcome return to the defence of Andy Corker.

In the second half, the Gladiators started slow as Gallows scored three. The Gladiators regrouped and set about their stylish passing that has become their trademark.

This style didn’t produce the results it deserved and Gallows scored twice more but them Leam Mansfield was fouled in the middle, referee Shaun Riley allowed a brilliant advantage and Stu Peason headed down and lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper in a Messi-style.

The Gladiators battled until the end but were unable to peg back the goals. They put up a great fight playing some good football which will surely be rewarded if they continue to play in this way.
