The Gladiators will be hoping for a repeat of last season’s results against their opening day opponents Lancaster City on August 18, Matlock winning 2-1 at the Giant Axe and 4-3 in the return.

The second Lancashire club to come to the Proctor Cars Stadium seven days later are Bamber Bridge, promoted via the play offs from the First Division North in May.

Matlock will need to be on their guard on their tough early season travels. Their first away game on Tuesday 21 August is at newly promoted Scarborough Athletic whose assistant manager is former Matlock manager Mark Hume and this is followed by a trip to Gainsborough Trinity, featuring former Matlock favourites Ross Hannah and Liam King on August Bank Holiday Monday.

A trio of difficult away games is completed with the long trek to Workington on Saturday 1 September with Whitby Town due down in Derbyshire three days later.

Matlock’s festive programme begins with a home game with Stafford Rangers on Saturday December 22 before travelling to Buxton for a Boxing Day derby.

Gainsborough Trinity will be their first opponents of 2018 with an attractive looking New Year’s Day fixture in prospect at the Proctor Cars Stadium.
