Hawks fly high to put six past the Blues

Matlock Town Hawks U14s 6

Chesterfield Junior Blues U14s 1

The Hawks continued their preparation for the season with a match against opposition from a higher division, starting with the same line-up who drew with last season’s league winners Burbage.

Matt Harwood was in goals with a solid backline of Oliver Swale, Sam Hewitt, Aedan Frazer and Kieran Clark providing the springboard for Levi Maslauskas-Nicholson, James Reynolds, Jacob Poole, Mike Kimpton and Connor Peacock to support Morgan Miles upfront.

The match got off to a flying start with the Hawks raiding down both flanks. A one-two between Kimpton and Reynolds saw Miles released to score from the tightest of angles. This set the pace for the rest of the match with Swale and Poole setting up Maslauskas–Nicholson to go close before the Blues pulled one back.

This only proved a spur as the Hawks worked across the backline with Hewit and Clark setting up a sweeping move that resulted in Miles making it 2-1, before Kimpton swiftly made it 3-1 with a penalty.

The second half saw Brandon Moore and Oliver Walden join the fray. A repeat of the first half saw Poole in on the back post to make it 4-1.

Kimpton made it three goals in a week to bring up 5-1 following a neatly worked corner, before the scoring was wrapped up as Peacock lobbed the keeper from the edge of the area.

The man of the match award went to the whole team with everyone playing their part.
