Chesterfield conceded two second-half goals as they fell to their first defeat in six games at Edgeley Park.
In a tight encounter with very few chances, the hosts edged it through strikes from James Jennings and Alex Reid.
It has still been a fairly good week for Town who have collected six points from a possible nine after coming out of isolation.
The loss leaves the Spireites in 16th in the National League table, seven points off the play-offs.

5. Laurence Maguire 6
Maguire was one of the Blues' better performers. He covered well for Taylor when he was caught out of position a couple of times and was steady overall. Photo: Dean Atkins
A difficult afternoon for Taylor who was caused some problems by the left-footed Walker who kept cutting inside him. He didn't get tight enough to his man and offered very little going forward. He was at fault for Stockport's second goal. Photo: Dean Atkins
