The Year Eight football team at Highfields School in Matlock has rounded of an outstanding season with an appearance in the county cup final.
The opponents for this game were Leesbrook School from Derby and the encounter place at Derby County’s Moor Farm training ground.
Despite a great team performance from the Highfields side, Leesbrook won the game 4-1, with Michael Kimpton scoring a much-deserved consolation goal in the second half.
The team has improved this year under the guidance of Mr Shirtcliffe and staff feel they are a great bunch of students to work with, who absolutely love playing good quality football.
Football is on the up at Highfields with good teams in all year groups. The year eight team has only lost two games this season, one of those being the cup final.
The year seven side also made it through to the last 32 in the National Cup. It is hoped the school can use this as a platform and look to build these achievements next year. The staff would like to thank all the players, staff, and parents for their efforts and support this season.
A big thanks also to Slacks coaches for putting on a free supporters coach for the match too.
