The perfect start

It looked rosy for the Spireites when they were awarded a penalty after just 70 seconds when Wealdstone goalkeeper Harry Isted clattered into Nathan Tyson. Tom Denton tucked the spot-kick away and they almost doubled their lead, but Isted denied Luke Rawson who tried to go around him. But it all soon went downhill from there...

How big a moment was Tyson’s injury?

We’ll never know if the scoreline would have been different if Tyson, making his first start of the season, did not have to go off after six minutes with a dead leg following that earlier challenge by Isted. Tyson won the penalty with a perfectly timed run in behind Wealdstone’s high defensive line and Pemberton said that was their game plan and it looked to be working. Was that the turning point?

Poor defending...again

Despite taking the lead, Town found themselves trailing with a quick-fire double from Moses Emmanuel on 13 and 16 minutes. Both goals came down the Blues’ right side, which has been a recurring theme so far this season. The pacy Dennon Lewis, who was on ITV2’s reality show, Love Island, last year, assisted both. Opposition teams are clearly targeting Chesterfield’s right flank with as many as six goals coming down that side already. The Spireites have shipped nine goals in five games which is a massive worry.

Formation change?

After Wealdstone went 2-1 up, Pemberton changed to a 4-4-2 formation and brought Josef Yarney on at right-back and moved Jordan Cropper to right midfield, with Jamie Sharman coming off before half-time. That could be something that Pemberton has to look at to give some protection to Cropper because at the moment he is struggling.

High five for Dents

After Jacob Mendy Mendy hit a worldie into the top corner, Denton headed in Cropper’s long-throw to make it 3-2. That’s five goals in five games for Denton, making him the joint top scorer in the division. Many people have questioned whether Denton should be dropped to encourage the Spireites to stop going long to him more than they should, but you can’t argue with his goal record so far.
