Matlock Arc return to action with WFA Cup win
Matlock Arc eased through the first round of the WFA National Cup with a comfortable win over Mansfield Senior Reds.
Playing their first competitive match for almost two years, Matlock were quickly back into their stride and took an early lead when Graham Collier finished a smart move involving Richard Livings and Jim Ellis, only for Mansfield to level from the penalty spot despite Matlock having dominated possession.
The game continued in a similar vein in the second period and despite a combination of fine goalkeeping, the woodwork and less than clinical finishing it took a Collier penalty for Matlock to restore their lead.
This was followed by a fine finish from Richard Appleby which seemed to enable Matlock to play out time comfortably.
However, a deflected shot in the dying moments of the game resulted in a late Mansfield goal and a 3-2 Matlock victory.
