Matlock Town boss says players still have to make up for error

The Gladiators conceded two late goals and were beaten at Marine, before returning to winning ways on Tuesday night at home to Mickleover Sports.

But Hume says his side still have “a lot of making up to do” and he was “like a bear with a sore head” right through to Tuesday after the dramatic collapse.

“There’s no point in keeping going on about it, it’s getting to sound like a broken record,” Hume said.

“We should have finished the game off, we have to take our chances and wrap the game up.

“Then Adam Yates has had a brilliant ninety minutes then makes the mistake, there’s no point playing well for ninety minutes and then giving the points away with an error.

“There are no excuses, we weren’t bad and got a win against Mickleover, we were steady but we want another win on Saturday.”

Marine are Matlock’s opponents again this weekend as they come to the Autoworld Arena in a swift turnround of the fixture and Hume says his squad should not require much of a team talk ahead of the clash.

“Really I shouldn’t have to say a word to them for they’ve got to go out there and make sure they right a few wrongs,” he added.

“The Marine and Grantham games have cost us six points and with other results against the bottom sides, just look where we could be now.

“They should be raring to go and fully at it on Saturday, the players let me down last Saturday.

“The talking’s done for me, I’m not waiting about for much longer to see if some can do it, I’ve told them in no uncertain terms I’ll get a couple or so lads in who will.”

The Gladiators are at home for a third successive time in a week against FA Trophy quarter finalists Nantwich Town, the Dabbers having beaten Town 2-0 at the First Round Proper stage in December.

While Liam Gaughan should return to the squad against Marine after work commitments ruled him out of the Mickleover match, and Chesterfield loan forward Jake Orrell should be fit after injury.

Midfielder Andy Gascoigne and striker Jack Siddall will not feature, and Micky Harcourt faces a fitness test after collecting a calf injury at Marine.

Gascoigne’s loan period from National League North outfit Harrogate Town expired on Monday and the Yorkshiremen want him back.

Siddall, who has been unable to play on loan at Armthorpe Welfare as often as he would have liked due to a change in his work circumstances, will be joining Evo-Stik NPL First Division North Ossett Town who have this week appointed Grant Black as their new manager.
