The young Gladiators progressed to the quarterfinals of the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup with a solid, if at times, unconvincing performance against Bakewell Town from the Hope Valley league.
Despite the Gladiators having the majority of the early possession Bakewell were close to taking an early lead when a shot from Mosley very nearly crept in at the far post with Marco Taaffe well beaten.
However after 31 minutes Matlock took the lead when Dave Edge held the ball up on the edge of the visitors 18 yard box before passing to David Awomolo who scored with a fine drive into the bottom left corner.
Midway through the secnd half a cross from the right found Jack Siddall lurking unmarked in the six yard box.
Deciding not to take a touch Jack volleyed home giving Nick Rosling in the Bakewell goal no chance. Bakewell then had a period of ascendency with the Gladiators intent on protecting the two goal cushion.
They were very nearly made to pay for their lack of adventure when Mosley had Bakewells best chance but his shot hit the crossbar with Boam then guiding his follow up header against the woodwork.
After 82 minutes Captain Alex Hewitt was rewarded for his efforts when he headed home powerfully to put the result beyond doubt.
Although on the day the young Gladiators deserved to win the margin of the victory did not accurately reflect the solid team performance from a Bakewell Town side deprived of their three main strikers and forced to operate with their captain Ben Rach in an unaccustomed role as a lone striker.
