matlock Town and Buxton under 19s contested the Matlock Memorial Shield game at the Reynolds Stadium in Matlock last week.

A three-figure crowd turned up to watch the match, held in memory of Jack O’Dare, the talented former Matlock under 19s player who died in a car accident four years ago, at the age of 17.

In a game of two halves, it was the young Bucks of Buxton who took the game to the Gladiators of Matlock and, by half-time, they held a deserved 3-0 lead thanks to efforts from Danny Hopkins, Jake Bradbury and Cameron Higginbottom.

But in an amazing turnaround after the break, it was Matlock’s youngsters who came out fighting and, after a great second half, they finally lost 3-2 with George Marshall and Matt Wilkinson scoring for Matlock in a game that was a credit to both sides.
