Missed chances so costly for Dynamoes

DARLEY Dale Dynamoes under sevens found out that football can sometimes be a tough game when they lost 4-1 against Matlock Gladiators under sevens.

By half-time, Dynamoes who felt that they had dominated of the play up until that point, found themselves 3-1 down and facing a tough ask going into the second half.

They had started the game well with Joe Novelli’s fine pass finding Dylan Bayes but his shot was well saved. James Andrews then found Ben Crooks but the keeper saved the Gladiators again.

At the other end, Tommy Gill made two brave saves, while Joshua Snape and Sam Gould made a number of strong tackles and interceptions.

A series of fine corners from Bayes caused trouble in the Matlock goalmouth and one was eventually turned in as Crooks stabbed home to make sure and give Darley a deserved lead.

The Dynamoes were cruising and were just minutes from going into the interval on top.

However, an impressive three-goal salvo turned the game on its head and sent Darley into half-time completely shell-shocked.

The Dynamoes controlled long periods of the second half just as they had the first, with Bayes, Crooks and Gill all breaking dangerously from midfield and all going agonisingly close to pulling a goal back.

A good tackle from Thomas Wigley set up Billy Talbot but his shot went just wide, whilst Novelli’s effort was deflected past the post.

However, a Matlock goal from a corner made it foue and the game was over.
