THERE were goals aplenty in the Midlands Regional Alliance at the weekend with some of our local teams scoring a hatful and some, unfortunately, on the receiving end.
In the Premier Division, Cromford won 5-1 at Mickleover RBL while Rowsley 86 also scored five in beating hosts Newmount.
The home team managed two goals in reply and actually led 2-0 at one stage before an own goal and a penalty turned the course of the game.
Willington also held a nap hand as they beat Matlock Sports 5-2 while Ashover lost 3-0 at home to Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure.
In Division One, Woolley Moor United went goal crazy to hammer Mickleover RBL Reserves 10-0 while Rowsley 86 Reserves handed out a 4-2 defeat to Derby Singh Brothers.
Into Division Two, Mackworth St Francis defeated Ambergate through the only goal of the game from Aaron Wightman while Andy Holmes was the scorer for Wirksworth Town Reserves as they lost 2-1 to Melbourne Dynamo Reserves.
The first cup action of the season was a first round Challenge Cup tie, and this game went to penalties before Wirksworth Ivanhoe won 4-2 on spotkicks over Punjab United Reserves.
It was 1-1 at the end of playing time with Jacob Gunton on target for Ivanhoe.
