Wirksworth Colts beat Duffield Dynamos U18 4-0 to win their seventh successive Derby City League game as Olly Prince extended his hot scoring streak.
After an equal opening half hour in which Duffield belied their lowly position in the second division, Prince scored with his first touch 40 seconds after coming on as a substitute when he headed home Sam Paisley’s expert free-kick after Robbie Paton had been fouled.
Although Paisley struck another free-kick against the crossbar before half-time, the strong wind in Duffield’s favour meant Wirksworth were grateful to be leading at the break.
Then the visitors’ strength in depth showed as Harry Ballington, another substitute, scored his seventh goal of the season after the Duffield goalkeeper could only parry Josh Middleton’s swerving 25-yard free-kick.
The goal of the game soon followed as Middleton and Prince exchanged one-twos to the edge of the penalty area from whence the latter volleyed into the bottom of the net in style for his eight goal in his last four games.
When Matt Massey played Ballington in down the right hand side with another swift one-two, there was nothing the Duffield defender could do as Ballington’s cross shot deflected in at the near post.
With George Mitchell enjoying a fine debut in the centre of midfield, Liam Smith-Vidal, James Simmonds and Laurence Bostock were alert to everything to help Ben Clark keep his third clean sheet in four games.
