CHRIS Henson wasted no time on Saturday, managing to score a hat-trick within 15 minutes of coming on for Wirksworth Town Reserves in their 5-1 win at Ambergate.
Matt Redshaw scored the other two goals for the visitors in this Midlands Regional Alliance Division Two encounter.
It was a good day all round for Town as the first team beat Rowsley 86 4-1 in the first round of the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup North.
Both Carl Moore and Martin Dancer scored a brace in the win.
In the Premier Division, Allenton United put last week’s blip behind them to beat Matlock Sports 3-1. Nathan Sandar (two) and Dave Carr were on the scoresheet.
Cromford revived their title chances with a 2-1 win over Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure. Steve Prine and Scott Gascoigne bagged the Cromford goals.
In Division One, Rowsley 86 Reserves’ slide down the league continued as they were beaten 3-2 at home to Holbrook St Michael’s Reserves, who seem to have hit a rich vein of form. Pete Denton and Ben Powell scored for Rowsley.
In Division Two, Wirksworth Ivanhoe maintained their three-point advantage over Newton with a win of their own.
This was achieved 4-1 over Bargate Rovers Reserves. Liam Murphy, Ben Marsh, Alex Howard and Vince Kinder all scored for Ivanhoe.
There were two third round Challenge Cup ties and both produced plenty of goals. Ashover beat Little Eaton Reserves 4-1 with goals from Joseph Gordon (two), Dave Kirk and Ant Lynham but Mackworth St Francis went three better, hammering Findern 7-1.
The best score of the day, though, came in the south section of the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup with Melbourne Dynamo winning 8-0 playing Derbyshire Amateurs.
