Liam’s predicted Chesterfield line-up

(4-1-4-1) Fitzsimons; King, Palmer, Grimes, Clements; Jones; Mandeville, Banks, Oldaker, Dobra; Quigley.

Subs: Covolan, Williams, Maguire, Whelan, Akinola, Clarke, Uchegbulam, Tshimanga, Asante.

Teams can of course name nine subs in the FA Cup.

To get the lowdown on the Baggies’ season so far, new boss Carlos Corberan, style of play, key men, likely line-up and off-field protests, we spoke to journalist Lewis Cox, who reports on West Brom for the Express and Star newspaper.

On the possibility of West Brom making changes, Lewis said: “Oh yes, almost certainly. I would not even rule out the possibility of a full 11 changes from the last league game, a 1-0 win over Reading on Monday.

“That would not be taking National League opposition lightly or for granted, but it is more a nod to Albion’s big squad packed with talent at Championship level. They should be able to fully rotate and have enough to reach round four.”

On the reaction from the West Brom end to drawing Chesterfield, he said: “General intrigue really. Albion haven’t faced Chesterfield competitively since 1948, for almost every travelling Baggie it will be a new ground to ‘tick off’ - which is a refreshing change from visiting the same old stadia.

“The FA Cup is, as you would imagine, far from a priority for the Baggies but supporters would not shun a run through a couple of rounds after some recent early round disappointments.”

And this is Lewis’ predicted Baggies’ line-up: (4-2-3-1): Button; Ingram, Kelly, Ajayi, Reach; Livermore, Gardner-Hickman; Diangana, Rogic, Grant; Cleary.

Spireites injury news

Chesterfield have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this game, according to coach Danny Webb.

Manny Oyeleke and Georg Cooper remain the only absentees.

Assistant manager Danny Webb on facing Baggies:

“Me and Gary Roberts went to watch them play against Reading a few days ago. They’re strong. I don’t think I’m giving to much away by saying I think they’ll make a few changes.

“I think you’ve got to give credit to the manager. Whoever they bring in will certainly be strong.

“They are a good team. You can tell the vibe around The Hawthorns that there is a real buzz around the place. All the supporters they are bringing here won’t settle for an upset.

“We’re at home against a Championship team that are in really good form – there’s a chance.

“I’m excited; we’re looking forward to it. Like I said before the Northampton game, I think it’s a different kind of pressure.

“We all turn up on a matchday here at the stadium with a buzz and excitement of all the crowd and supporters we have. Everyone’s buzzing for the occasion.

“The FA Cup is a bit different, especially against a team as big as West Brom where we are looking to cause an upset.

“It’s just as if we were playing a National League team. If we don’t turn up or rise to the challenge, then it will be a tough day. Just because it is the FA Cup, our approach doesn’t change at all.”

This season she has been the referee for games in League One and League Two.

Welch made history in last season’s FA Cup when she became the first female referee to take charge of a third round match in the historic competition, which was between Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle.

And Welch became the first woman to referee a fixture in the Football League in April 2021 when Port Vale played Harrogate in League Two.

Welch will be assisted by Jonathan Hunt and Garry Maskell and fourth official Peter Wright.

West Brom have won eight of their last nine games in the Championship.

Chesterfield have won seven out of eight in the National League.

It’s all set-up for a cracker!
