Reunion call goes out ahead of June event

A MAJOR reunion for anyone who has ever played in the Alfreton and District Sunday Football League is being held later this year.

Organised by former Archway ‘84 goalkeeper Andy Smithurst, the event is being staged at Lumb Farm, Marehay, on Sunday, June 12.

Every single player, club and match official, sponsor and even supporter who has been involved in any capacity since the league was formed in 1968 is invited to attend.

The league has attracted membership of teams from Matlock, Wirksworth, Belper, Heage, Chesterfield, Ilkeston, Giltbrook, Eastwood and numerous others down the years, so memories will be plentiful and the number of people attending could run to hundreds, if not more.

There will be a fun day with families encouraged to attend as there will be something for everyone. The event will be a great chance to meet up and talk football with former teammates and even opponents and referees.

Included on the day, which will run from 2pm to 10.30pm, will be a hog roast, barbecue, bouncy castle and other rides for children, a licensed bar and fundraising events. Those attending are invited to email and confirm name, team(s) played for and approximate era if known. These will be added to an ‘attending list’, continually updated until the day of the event.

so everyone can look and see who will be there. The ‘Who is attending’ page can be viewed on the official reunion website at
