Rowsley 86 3
Matlock Sports 0
Rowsley 86’s fantastic start to the season continued on Wednesday night following a 3–0 victory against local rivals Matlock Sports.
It was Rowsley who began the game on the front foot and opened the scoring within the opening five minutes, following Nik Baker’s throw-in to Tim Baker, who turned and powered his way into the penalty area and knocked the ball two yards to his strike partner Sam Hoskin, who coolly with the outside of his right foot and netted his first goal of the season.
This duly woke Sports up, who changed their system to nullify the Rowsley attack. This worked for Sports, who began to grow into the game, and turn the Rowsley defence, but didn’t manage to trouble Matt Smith in the Rowsley goal.
Rowsley then doubled their lead around the half-hour mark when Andrew Boyack delivered a superb cross onto the head of in-form striker Tim Baker to make it 2–0 at the break.
The second half played the same as the first half with Sports making use of the extra man in midfield and turning the Rowsley defence but failing to make Smith work on enough occasions.
It was Rowsley who finished the game off 20 minutes into the second half when Sam Hoskin’s cross was taken under control at the far post by Andrew Boyack, who smashed in Rowsley’s third. This was a well-balanced game but Rowsley’s clinical forward play ultimately settled this local derby.
