THE man whose company has agreed to be shirt sponsor this season for Matlock Town is urging other local businesses to get involved and support a club he feels is on the up.
The Matlock-based Derwent Financial Services will sponsor both the home and away kits in a one-year deal and the firm’s Andrew Hodkin is delighted to be continuing his long association with the club.
He told the Mercury: “I’ve been involved with Matlock Town at a junior level for years but have had to pull back a little from that due to work commitments so I decided to get involved in a different way and I’m very happy that Tom Wright (club chairman) and myself have agreed on this deal for Derwent Financial Services to sponsor the kit.
“Tom is a friend of mine and this seemed the ideal way of helping the club in a different way. I was assistant manager of the club’s under 18s and before that I was one of the people in at the start of Matlock Town’s junior set-up and I also managed my own junior team for ten years.”
He continued: “I’m a Matlock man and 99 per cent of my business is people from Matlock so it’s all about putting something back into both the club and the town. I have also set up a scheme where, for every transaction we carry out on behalf of someone linked with the club (players, supporters etc), I will make a contribution to the club.
“This deal is a good fit and I’m proud to be doing it. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, I went to Wembley for the FA Trophy final in 1975, and it’s a good time to be involved in the club because they’re on the up. The facilities are far beyond the level they are playing at and we hope success on the pitch will contribute to a feelgood factor in the town.
“I’d encourage other businesses to get in touch with Tom and get involved with the club too.”
