Chesterfield will travel without former Arsenal starlet Mark Randall, after the club decided against offering the 23-year-old a new deal.

The midfielder, who forged a promising reputation during his time with the Premier League giants, leaves after two years with the Spireites.

His future had been in doubt following the arrivals of central midfield men Ryan and Morsy.

And Chesterfield manager Paul Cook said the club chose not to take up an option on Randall.

Cook also revealed the Spireites are still looking for another “strong, aggressive, holding type of midfielder” in addition to the options already at his disposal, which includes Sam Togwell in the centre of the park.

Chesterfield may be without young prospect Jacob Hazel, who has agreed a loan move to Norwegian third tier side Sprint-Jeloy.

The 19-year-old will fly out to Norway once the relevant paperwork has been completed to allow the temporary switch to go ahead.

Without him, the striking department will see Doyle, Marc Richards and Armand Gnanduillet contend for positions in attack.

Liam Cooper and Drew Talbot look likely to be part of a back four, which may see transfer listed Sam Hird, while there is a slight doubt over the fitness of Nathan Smith.

It will be the first chance supporters will have to see the Spireites in action since the home win over Exeter City in the final game of last season.

Tickets for the game are on sale and can be bought on the gate on Saturday, July 6.

While the club has confirmed the pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest at the Proact Stadium will kick off at 7.30pm on July 16.
