Chesterfield have bolstered their ranks ahead of this Saturday’s visit of Southend with the signings of Richard Brindley and Armand Gnanduillet.

The additions of defender Brindley, a former Norwich City trainee, and striker Gnanduillet, a 6’4” Ivory Coast U20s international, will add much-needed depth to the Spireites squad.

The club are also keen on bringing midfielder Conor Townsend back to the Proact Stadium from Hull City.

Paul Cook stated his intentions to strengthen during this January’s transfer window and has already tied down Liam Cooper and Jay O’Shea on permanent deals.

The Chesterfield manager, however, continues to be prudent with the club’s purse strings and has seen out-of-favour defender Terrell Forbes follow Craig Westcarr and Luis Boa Morte out the exit door.

Cook said: “For players to come in, players must go out.

“Managers will always be judged on signings, it’s the nature of the game we’re in.

“Results and signings normally dictate how well a manager does.”

The Spireites welcome Southend United on Saturday and the club remain confident the game will go ahead, despite heavy snow and sub zero temperatures wreaking havoc on the football schedule over the past 10 days.

Last weekend’s trip to Torquay was postponed due to torrential rain on the south coast taking it’s toll on the playing surface.

The fixture has been re-arranged for Tuesday, March 19 (7.45pm ko).
