Chesterfield have clinched the signing of experienced winger Gary Roberts, following his release from Swindon Town.
Roberts, 29, joins the Spireites on a three-year contract after negotiations were concluded on Saturday.
Chief executive Chris Turner is delighted to welcome Roberts to the club.
He said: “Gary is a quality signing - I don’t think there’s anybody outside the Premiership who’s better on the left wing.
“The left-hand side has been unbalanced for a long time and the addition of Gary will further strengthen the firepower as he creates and scores goals.
“Paul Cook has patiently waited for the deal to be done as he was very keen to bring Gary in. Chairman Dave Allen has provided some great support to ensure the conclusion of the deal.”
Roberts, who was with Liverpool as a junior, spent time in non-league football before being signed by Ipswich Town in 2006.
He joined Huddersfield Town two years later for a fee of around £250,000 and went on to score 31 goals in 164 appearances for the Terriers.
After being released last summer, Roberts signed for Swindon and made four goals in 38 appearances last season.
He becomes Chesterfield’s fourth pre-season capture, joining fellow new recruits Eoin Doyle, Jimmy Ryan and Aaron Chapman at the club.
