Shirland’s band of walking wounded got back to winning ways with a fantastic display and a 2-1 victory on Saturday in the Matlock and District Football League against a Hilcote United side who themselves were missing a host of players.
Shirland’s new boy Paul Holmes started in midfield and put in a display fit for a king, completely running the show, but it was injured keeper Darren Shaw who won the man of the match award with some stunning saves. Alex Prior opened the scoring with a terrific shot on the turn from a Holmes pass and Hegarty added a second following more slick approach work from Prior & Harrison.
Darley Dale suffered their fourth defeat of the season, in a stunning 6-2 win for Shirebrook Rangers, Darley Dale’s scorers were Westley Harrop and Mark Aston. On the scoresheet for Shirebrook was Carl Plastow, Steve Phillips and a brace each for Ryan Booker and Scott Ashmore.
All Inn FC also hit six at the weekend in beating Laburnum Saints 6-2.
