TANSLEY Juniors under 14s rounded off their magnificent 2010-2011 season with a fine 8-0 victory over Alfreton Town Wildcats under 14s at the weekend.
The win means that the in-form lads completed the season as Rowsley and District Youth Football League Division Two champions, remaining unbeaten in the league throughout the campaign.
They made their by-now- familiar slow start against determined opposition but Dan O’Neill in goal had little to do as the back four of Callum Taylor, Will Lee, Zac Gauqui and Jack Foki kept Alfreton’s chances to a minimum.
Gauqui was replaced through injury after 15 minutes by Anthony Crick and the defence remained strong despite this enforced change.
Alfreton had a few players missing and, as the half progressed, this began to tell with the Tansley five-man midfield of Gareth James, Tom Towndrow, Alex Godber, Spencer Laird and Ed Spencer taking control and lone striker Harry Brown always proving a threat.
Eventually, the goal came with a cross from James on the left wing dropping in at the far post to make it 1-0 at half time.
John Birch came on at the start of the second half and Tansley’s dominance paid off with two more goals for James, two for Laird and one each for Godber, Foki and top scorer Brown.
Declan Young, who has contributed 13 goals this season, was unable to play due to illness.
This ended a fine season with 17 wins and three draws and Alfreton sportingly applauded the Tansley team off the pitch.
The management team would like to thank all the players for their efforts and commitment and the parents for their invaluable support throughout the season as they now start preparing for the tough test next time around in Division One.
