THE battle of Wirksworth was won by Town.

The battle of Wirksworth was the highlight of the weekend’s action involving Midlands Regional Alliance (MRA) teams. And it was the turn of Wirksworth Town to reclaim bragging rights as they avenged a defeat earlier in the season at the hands of Wirksworth Ivanhoe.

Ivanhoe won the Premier Division encounter 3-2, but this Derbyshire Divisional Cup North tie went to Town, who triumphed 4-3 to move into the next round.

Two own goals and efforts from Adam Kay and Toby Howard swayed it Town’s way, with Daniel Watson bagging a brace for Ivanhoe and Liam Sheldon also on the scoresheet.

The other fixture in the cup saw Premier Division champions Rowsley 86 secure a 3-0 victory over Division One outfit Shirebrook Rangers thanks to a penalty from Nik Baker and strikes from Andrew Roome and Sam Hoskin.

In the Divisional Cup South, the biggest clash came down at the M.J. Robinson Structures Arena as Notts Senior League, First Division leaders South Normanton Town were humbled by MRA, Premier Division leaders Aston United 5-0. Four goals from Mark Green and a single from top scorer Shay Wiggins ensured it was United who came out on top.

Sandiacre Town racked up the biggest scoreline of the weekend as they enjoyed a 6-0 victory over Central Midlands League (CML) outfit Holbrook St Michaels Reserves. Matthew Hill put Sandiacre one up up before two goals from George Wilkinson gave them a comfortable three-goal advantage. Daniel Harries netted a brace of his own and then Sam Dilks rounded off a comfortable afternoon’s work.

Stockbrook Rangers also knocked out CML opposition as they inflicted a 5-2 defeat on high-flying Heanor Town Reserves down at Rifle Range ,courtesy of braces from Dominic Holder and Nathan Sandar, along with an effort from Pete Bowler.

There was disappointment for Melbourne Dynamo, however, as they were dumped out of the tournament by a 3-2 loss to Gresley Reserves, who surged into a three-goal lead by half-time. Second-half goals from Jack Goodband and Tom Colclough were not enough to secure a comeback for Dynamo.

In the Derbyshire Junior Cup North, unbeaten Rowsley 86 Reserves progressed into the Third Round after they edged past Dove Holes Reserves 2-1 thanks to goals from Connor Hiley and Henry Broatch.

Elsewhere, MRA, Division Two outfit Chesterfield Town secured a 4-3 win over Division One side Wirksworth Town Reserves after extra-time. Alex Brown netted a hat-trick for Wirksworth.

With no league action in the Premier Division, most of the day’s MRA action took place in Division Two where leaders Shirebrook Rangers Reserves slumped

to a 3-0 defeat at unbeaten Ambergate. Lewis Whiting netted all the goals.

In a clash between the bottom two sides, Punjab United secured a 3-1 victory over table-proppers Real Medina, courtesy of strikes by Josh Matkin and namesake Dan, along with a third from Arronjeet Dosangh.

Sherwin Reserves picked up a 3-2 victory at October’s team-of-the-month Ripley Town Reserves.
