Chesterfield Town of the Matlock & District Football League reached the final of the Manor Pharmacy Shield with a tense yet thrilling game against an All Inn side capable of beating any team on their day.

Chesterfield’s impressive start to the game bought early and justifiable calls for manager Tim Sadler to be knighted as Chesterfield began to penetrate with menace, forcing a succession of early corners.

In the early part of the game, Sadler’s side broke with speed and hit All Inn with deep, probing crosses. Eventually, their persistence paid off. Ash Walters’s quickly-taken free-kick was rolled into the path of Purcell and the playmaker unleashed a low, driven shot from 25 yards that flew in.

With two more quick goals from Chesterfield’s Ash Walters and Mark Clements, and the scoreline at 3-0, the game looked all over, even though the score flattered Chesterfield.

But All Inn have shown that they are no quitters and once they started to find their passing game, one-way traffic ensued. The threat on Chesterfield’s goal intensified and when Steve Lambird sent over an inviting cross in the 43rd minute, the ball was flicked on and Craig Marples headed home.

But midway through the second half, Chesterfield’s top scorer Dean Spencer added to their misery and made it 4-1.

All Inn had other ideas and this game wasn’t over until that final whistle was blown. After an own goal gave them a lifeline, you could sense that a comeback was on the cards. With the clock ticking, Marples burst past three defenders and crossed for Lambird to steer home.

At 4-3, Chesterfield had to endure a nervous last ten minutes as All Inn came forward with everything they had, but it wasn’t to be as the referee blew for full time giving Chesterfiled Town their first final in the Manor Pharmacy Matlock & District Football League.
