Matlock Town Juniors Jaguars 0

This season’s opener resulted in a stalemate in difficult conditions at Fairfield.

The strong wind made it difficult for both defences but the Matlock rearguard coped admirably, with the dependable Will Charlton taking man of the match honours and Lewis Rushton impressing on his debut. Also making his first appearance was ‘keeper Harry Goodman who demonstrated safe hands and composure.

Chances were few and far between, with speculative efforts from Dan Wagstaffe and skipper Rowley Emery going close. The move of the match involving Wagstaffe, James Hall, Shaun Byard and Kit Buckley resulted in Luke Greenwood firing just over. Then Ben Heath tested the keeper with a fine header following Elliott Fletcher’s cross.

Buxton, with the wind behind them, pressed towards the end but the Jaguars defence held firm for a well-earned point.
