Tansley U8s 1
Wirksworth Sonics U8s 1
a VOCAL crowd was treated to a fantastic game game of football with both sides giving 100 per cent and honours eventually ending even.
Sonics started brightly with Thomas Champion marshalling from the back and Toby Peason and Fin Surgey keeping the midfield solid.
The wide play of Tobi Wilkinson and Stephan Edwards produced the main threat with Daniel Repton working hard up front.
Despite some good pressure by the Sonics, it was Tansley who took the lead with an unstoppable free kick that flew past keeper Jasper Williams.
The Tansley goal seemed to spur on the Sonics, however, and within a few minutes they were back in the game as Wilkinson beat a couple of players on the left, cut inside and fired in a long range effort, much to the pleasure of his fellow players and supporters alike.
This gave the Wirksworth side more confidence and they again went close just before half-time when Pearson hit the woodwork, the Tansley keeper happy to see the ball drift along the goalline and to safety.
A change in personnel at half-time saw Thomas ‘The Cat’ Champion go into goal, Max Taylor Matkin up front, with Rufus Sammels Moore and the William ‘The Rock’ Howard in midfield, which kept the pressure on Tansley for much of the game.
Tansley did have a few breaks, however, which the Sonics defensive unit dealt with in confidence. Wilkinson again hit the woodwork half way through the second half and Matkin and Howard both went close, but the ball just would not go in.
In the final minute, Tansley broke clear with only ‘The Cat’ to beat, but he does not have that nickname for nothing and made a great stop to keep the scores level.
The final whistle produced a great cheer from the crowd in appreciation to the efforts of both sets of players.
