Free hockey sessions for youngsters

Derwent and Matlock Hockey are offering the chance for youngsters inspired by last year’s London 2012 Olympics to take up the sport.

They are offering two free sessions on August 1 and August 8, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Games.

The sessions will be held at Wirksworth Leisure Centre from 6pm to 8pm and are available for boys and girls aged between six and 17.

The coaching will be led by Heath Roberts, who coaches at England Hockey’s junior regional performance centre in Nottingham.

He said: “In the Derbyshire Dales we are seeing a big increase in the number of youngsters taking up hockey. The boys are the current U12 Derbyshire Champions and Ellie Watton, who started her hockey playing for Matlock, is now part of the senior England squad. So there has never been a better time to try hockey.”

Places are limited so to book for the two sessions email: [email protected] or visit www.derwenthockeyclub.co.uk for more information.
