Carlton 0 Matlock U19s 5
Matlock eased into the quarter-finals of the League Cup with a comfortable win at Carlton.
Matlock got off to slow start with both teams evenly matched for the first half-an-hour, but in the 35th minute good link-up play between Wynn and Featherstone ended with Matt Andrews firing home a sweet finish from the edge of the penalty area for a half-time lead.
The second-half saw Matlock step up a gear and Alex Bradshaw produced a calm finish on 55 minutes after a fine ball from Hollands.
Matlock’s third goal was arguably their best of the season to date, as a fine ball from Evans in defence to Wynn saw him in turn find Jenkins and a one-two with Andrews resulted in the latter firing into the bottom corner.
Carlton never looked like penetrating a sturdy Matlock’s new-look defence of 16 and 17-years-old Turner, Towndrow, Rogers and Evans, all well-marshaled by Taffee in goal who had another faultless, error-free game.
The midfield of man-of-the-match Wynn, Jenkins, Hollands and Bradshaw started to dominate the game and Bradshaw scored the fourth goal on 72 minutes before he completed his hat-trick with the fifth late on to seal the win.
