Goals galore for CFA with two fine Easter victories

The Matlock CFA scorers from their game at Chesterfield Town on Saturday.

Matlock Town CFA had the most cause to celebrate over Easter weekend as they recorded back-to-back wins to close in on top pair Sherwin and Melbourne Dynamo Reserves in the Midlands Regional Alliance Division Two standings.

Saturday saw Steve Heath’s young charges travel to fourth-placed Chesterfield Town and return with a 4-1 victory.

Chesterfield had a couple of early chances, hitting the post twice before the CFA opened the scoring.

Both strikers combined well as Reece Nuttall headed the ball back into the box which dropped nicely for Marcus Beddoe who made no mistake with his finish.

Man of the match Alex Lacey created the first goal and then floated a great cross into the Chesterfield box for Tom Evans to bury a bullet header and double the CFA score just before the break.

Chesterfield pulled a goal back early in the second-half but the CFA held firm and midway through the half Nuttall made a run down the right only to brought down in the area. Up stepped Lacey who dispatched the spot-kick.

The victory was sealed when Jake Gascoigne was then felled by a clumsy challenge and the referee instantly pointed to the spot.

Again Lacey stepped up for a second time he coolly netted from the spot to seal the win.

Having scored against Chesterfield, Beddoe then kept his shooting boots on for the trip to Sandiacre Town Reserves on Bank Holiday Monday, netting a hat-trick as his side ran out 7-2 winners with the other goals coming from Lacey, Jordan Evans, Nuttall and James Byard.

The Premier Division and Division One schedules were hit by the weather on Saturday.

Rowsley ’86 Reserves’ match against basement side Newhall United Reserves did beat the weather, and the hosts showed no mercy as they hit nine without reply. Connor Hiley (4), Liam Hallam (2), Billy Lester, Jason Williams and Tim Baker got the goals for Rowsley in a 9-0 victory.

Bank Holiday Monday saw one match go ahead in Division One where Stapleford Town lost at home to Matlock United by the odd goal in seven.

Callum Gill scored twice for Matlock with Daniel Bridge and Jack Walden also on target.
