Matlock Golf Club has held its annual Captains Week with plenty of action taking place throughout.

The week commenced with the visit of 40 members to Stanton-on-the-Wolds Golf Club in Nottinghamshire. On his away day, captain Ian Marr enjoyed good weather and a parkland course that was in excellent condition.

The winning team were Michael Peet, Ian Waite, Peter Wainwright and Roy Parkes, just pipping Bob Cash, Andrew Turk, Neil Adby and Tim Morris into second place.

On Friday, the past captains played their competition with Roger Hardy winning the President’s Putter.

On Saturday the Captains Club Shotgun Texas Scramble was held with chairman Peter Beardsley, John Beardsley, Jamie Cluer and Gary Huckerby winning the event.

Jill Smith the overall winner in the ladies competition with 37 points, Carol Gladwyn was winner of the Silver Division with 33 points and Sheila Allen of the Bronze Division with 33 points.

On Sunday, with a large card, in heavy wind and at times blustery showers, the Captain’s Day was held. The course was in superb condition but due to the weather the golf was extremely difficult.

Overall winner of the Captain’s Trophy was Trevor Taylor with a net 67. Other winners were: Div 1 - Nick Russell, D2 - Chris Smith, D3 - Paul Edwards, D4 - Andy Brown. Best gross - Graham Coppen (69). Yellow Tee Stableford - D1 Dennis Freeberne, D2 John Simmons. Green Tees 70yrs plus - John Weselby.

In inter-club matches the ladies silver team secured a 3-2 win at home to Chevin, while in internal competitions, Thursday’s ‘turn up and play’ Stableford winner was Aaron Whitel with 40 points. Mick Paget won the 55 and over yellow tee competition with 42 points.
