Golfers defy wet weather

GOLFERS had to endure varying weather conditions on Sunday as they took part in the Matlock Open.

With a clear and sunny start lasting for most of the morning, the day descended into a rain-drenched afternoon and evening.

But the course stood up to the wet weather and most of the large number of entrants managed to finish their rounds.

The winners, from Ormond Fields, were Andy Goodall and Darren Fletcher.

Second place went to Sam Taylor from Allestree Park and Neil Ratcliffe from Horsley Lodge.

In third place were Ian Stanley of Breedon Priory and Phil Cook of Maywood.
