THE sun shone down on the Stan Brewster Memorial Pairs Trophy last week as local golfers came out in force for a good cause.

The golfing challenge starting with a wonderful sunny day at Chatsworth Golf Club and ended with a fabulous Pie Night at the Thorn Tree Inn, Matlock Bank.

The annual Stan Brewster Memorial Trophy is held in memory of Stan Brewster, the former Swanwick man who worked at the county council offices in Matlock and was one of the 52 victims of the terrorist bombings in London on July 7, 2005.

The event was first held in 2005 and this year’s contest was once again played in great spirit, attracting a field of 36 players.

The drawn winners of the Stan Brewster Memorial Trophy were Alan Cordin and Dave Briggs with a combined score of 69. The Open Shield for handicap golfers was won by Stuart “Bumble” Botham on 39 points with the Trophy for best non-handicap golfers going to Peter Walker on 34 points.

Best ladies card was won by Mel Elton on 27 points and Nearest the Pin (7th) and Longest Drive (15th) were both won by Andrew Millward.

The organisers of the event would like to say well done to everyone who took part and offer many thanks to Pat and Emma, landlords of the Thorn Tree Inn for the lovely pie supper provided. The pub was frequented by Stan Brewster when he used to work in Matlock.

A special thank you also goes to Linda at Masson Mills’ golf shop and Chatsworth Golf Club, and plans are already in place to hold the tournament in 2012.
