Buxton’s Eddy Holland was part of the Great Britain team that scooped a silver medal in the recent World Games held in Cali, Colombia.
Eddy, along with other members of Norton Tug of War Club from Staffordshire, represented his country in the Games, which are held every four years.
They are the highest level of competition for a diverse array of non-Olympic sports.
The tug of war event saw the top six ranked nations in the world in each respective weight category taking part.
Norton represented Great Britain in the 640kg category and got off to a flying start by defeating Germany, Ireland and Sweden by two ends to nil.
They were then defeated by Switzerland by two ends to nil, before defeating Belgium in their final match to finish second in the group.
The top four teams then progressed to the semi finals to compete for the gold, silver and bronze medals.
In the semi-finals, Great Britain were drawn against Germany and took another two ends to nil win to reach the final where, after a very competitive and hard-fought contest, Switzerland took the gold medal, with Great Britain taking a well deserved silver medal.
The win ensured the first medal of the 2013 Games for Great Britain.
