Sunday saw Matlock’s Original Jesters Fightclub travel to Barnsley for an afternoon of full contact action, with fighters competing under boxing, kickboxing and K1 rules..
Eighteen-year-old Joss Bevan made his full contact kickboxing debut against Nottingham’s Matt Hallam, 14 years his elder.
Bevan was unfazed and a hard-fought bout ended with the Jesters man’s first full contact win.
Adam Goskowski was fighting under boxing rules against Nottingham’s Anthony May, and sent his opponent to the canvas in just eight seconds, May unable to recover giving Goskowski a technical knockout in just 18 seconds.
Karl Johnston, fighting for the ICO British title under K1 rules, faced his toughest challenge to date against Leicester’s Jake Richards, who competes for the renowned Assassin club and has wins under his belt in both Thailand and Japan, making him a very dangerous opponent to face.
The opening three rounds saw both fighters battling hard, Johnston even breaking Richards’ nose at one point.
That spurred the Leicester man on, and in the dying seconds of the final round he landed a heavy straight cross to Johnston’s right eye, and despite making it to the final bell, the judges had the final say and Johnston lost out on points after an excellent performance.
