YOUNGSTERS at Middleton Community Primary School rounded off their school year by competing in a Mini-Olympics event, at the second time of asking.
The recent bad weather put paid to plans to originally hold the event but it was rearranged and a good time was had by all.
All 84 children competed in eight different athletic events. Medals were awarded to the winner of each event, for each year group and gender.
All children received a t-shirt, official Olympics flag, a well done badge and an Olympic torch medal.
The event was organised by Steph Spencer and money to cover the costs incurred came from sponsor money raised by her friends Jenny Quigley and Liz Mountney, who completed the London 10K dressed in Dalek outfits, on one of the hottest days of the year, plus sponsorship from DS Insulations.
The day was made particularly memorable as Trevor Hoskins from Middleton and Wirksworth Freestyle Wrestling Club brought in his real Olympic torch, so all the pupils got to hold it.
Three events were made in the village hall and five outside, in varying amounts of rain.
Outstanding performances included Ella Storm (Year Five) and Shaun Thorpe (Year Five) winning six events each, and Chloe Spencer (Year Two) and Jodie Duggins (Year One) winning five events each.
