Martin Guptill’s second spell with Derbyshire has now ended but he is likely to return to the County Ground in a year’s time, to open the batting against Derbyshire for New Zealand.
Derbyshire will host the touring Black Caps for a threeday fixture on May 4-6 2013.
It is the club’s third tourist fixture in four years against top international opposition.
New Zealand will use the match as preparation for the Test series versus England.
Derbyshire head coach Karl Krikken said: “Facing more international opposition in 2013 will provide another great opportunity for our players to test themselves versus some of the world’s top players.
“It will be a major challenge, in particular for our bowlers to control Martin, who has been a fantastic overseas player for us both last season and this time around.
“It will be great to see him back in Derbyshire.”
